About SpeedAndTest

SpeedAndTest is a free, independent website that helps people check how fast their internet connection really is, and understand what the numbers mean. Alongside the speed test, we publish plain-English guides on Wi-Fi, latency, mobile data and home networking, so that a slow connection becomes something you can diagnose rather than just endure.

Who is behind SpeedAndTest

Abdallah El Alaoui is the founder and developer of SpeedAndTest. He builds and maintains the speed test, the Android companion app and the website, and oversees the guides published on the blog.

SpeedAndTest started from a simple frustration: speed tests that show a big number without explaining it. The project is run independently, which keeps it focused on being useful to the people who visit it. You can reach Abdallah directly at contact@speedandtest.com.

Our mission

Most people only think about their internet when it stops working well. Our goal is to make connection testing accessible to everyone: no account, no installation and no cost.

We want every result to come with context. A number like "87 Mbps" means little on its own, so we explain what download speed, upload speed, ping and jitter actually affect in daily life, from video calls and streaming to online gaming, and what you can realistically do to improve them.

How the speed test works

When you press GO, the test runs in three phases directly in your browser:

  • Ping (latency): small packets are sent to the test server and the response time is measured in milliseconds.
  • Download: several parallel connections pull chunks of random data to the device, and throughput is measured in megabits per second (Mbps).
  • Upload: the process is reversed to measure how quickly your device can send data out.

Results are shown in real time and are stored on your own device. Real-world speed always depends on factors such as Wi-Fi signal quality, other devices on the network, the time of day and your provider, which is why we recommend testing a few times, ideally over a wired connection first.

📖

What we publish and how

The SpeedAndTest blog covers connection topics such as bufferbloat, Wi-Fi standards, eSIM and satellite connectivity. Our editorial approach is simple:

  • Articles aim to explain a topic clearly and practically, not to repeat a headline.
  • Factual claims are checked against primary or reputable sources, and we link to them where it helps the reader.
  • We do not sell reviews, and we do not accept payment to favour a provider or product.
  • If you spot an error, tell us and we will review and correct it.
🔒

Privacy and transparency

The speed test does not require registration. Test results are saved locally on your device. SpeedAndTest is free to use and may be supported by advertising; you can read exactly what data is collected and how cookies are used in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

You can also explore our Internet Performance Analyzer for a deeper look at your connection.
